Living Room Football
My son Alex and I went to Kansas City for Thanksgiving holiday and ran into a situation where we wanted to play, but it was too cold and dark outside. Our limitations are derived from our wanting to show consideration to my parents and the things that they have on display in the living room; we came up with the following “rules of the game”: * This game was played one-on-one, though I’m sure it could be extended with more space. * The game can be played with a real football or a “nerf” type ball for increased safety for the living room decor. * Kickoffs are by rolling the ball on the carpet, as in an onside kick. * Each team has 4 possible attempts (ie “downs”) to get past a goal line. * All players are on their knees, and move on their knees. Going to your feet is a “penalty” resulting in the loss of the down. * Each side lines up at the line of scrimmage. If the defending team crosses this line before the ball is picked up, it results in a penalty of 1/4 of the distance to the goal. * The runner/quarterback dashes forward on their knees hoping to get past the defender. * The runner is down once they are not making any forward progress. * The ball is marked for any forward progress, and placed on the floor for the next down.
